Texas Appeals and Habeas Corpus Attorney

If you think you have been wrongfully imprisoned or convicted of a crime, you have a number of options: appeals, a writ of habeas corpus, and other post-conviction remedies. Please be aware however that all of these options require complex and time-sensitive legal work, as well as the services of an experienced and wholly dedicated criminal appeals lawyer.

At The Ritenour Law Firm, P.C., located in San Antonio, attorney John Ritenour, handles all appeals in the Texas appellate court system, as well as those before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. In addition, I am also licensed to represent clients in the U.S. Supreme Court.

I know your rights and how to protect them.
Please call 210-222-0125 to schedule a free consultation.

I help my clients understand the realities of their situation, as well as the steps that can be taken to challenge their imprisonment or conviction.

  • What is a direct appeal? A direct appeal is a request to an appellate court to review and overturn a conviction reached in the trial court. An appeal is based solely on events at trial, such as the admissibility of certain evidence or improper jury instructions. Since the appellate court will examine only the written record of the trial court, there will be no further testimony or introduction of evidence. If necessary and properly presented, a direct appeal can go as far as the United States Supreme Court.
  • What is habeas corpus? After all direct appeals have failed, you can still fight an unjust conviction through a writ of habeas corpus. Unlike a direct appeal, a writ of habeas corpus can involve additional facts not presented at trial. The habeas corpus process is a complex and highly technical effort. I know how to work through that complex process and best present your case.

At the Ritenour Law Firm, P.C., it is my staunch belief that those who have been convicted of crimes have rights which need to be fully protected.
